9TH ANNUAL AWARENESS-RAISING EVENT CELEBRATES THE EFFORTS OF GROWERS AND ALL THOSE IN THE INDUSTRY
NATIONAL Fish and Chip Day falls on June 6th this year, which recognises the efforts of British potato growers as well as fishermen, chip shops and restaurants.
Now in its ninth year, the awareness-raising event has grown exponentially since its inception in 2015, recognising the historical significance of fish and chips during WWI, WWII, and particularly on D-Day.
Its organiser, The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association (NEODA), is a non-profit organisation established in 1947 committed to supporting the industry.
Chip shops and restaurants are encouraged to actively participate in National Fish and Chip Day through special offers, social media campaigns, collaborations, charity initiatives, educational activities, and creating a festive atmosphere in their establishments.
Showcasing their expertise can attract new customers and contribute to a nationwide celebration, the organisers state.
Traditionally held on a Friday, the date shift for this year’s event is to honour the 80th anniversary of the D Day landings.
President of NEODA, Gary Lewis, said “National Fish & Chip Day has always brought the nation together to celebrate this iconic dish, and because of the instrinsic links it has always had with the World Wars and D Day, we decided to move the date to show our support.
