ONE WEEK LEFT UNTIL EURO EVENT RETURNS TO FRANCE
ONE week remains until the international potato event, PotatoEurope, returns to France.
The event, which this year takes place on September 11th and 12th, alternates between four countries (France, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium), with a different host each year.
It’s the first time in eight years that the event has been held in France, as its last scheduled event in 2020 had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Different sectors of the European potato industry will come together at the event to discuss everything from agroecological research to economic opportunities and hear about latest research and innovations.
Didier Lombart, President of ARVALIS – Institut du Végétal’s Professional Potato Committee, said climate change and the ability of potato growers to adapt accordingly is a current priority, and said one encouraging sign is the varietal selection offering, while efficient management of inputs to decarbonise the sector needs to be a key target for all growers and suppliers.
“Cultural practices are evolving to improve the control of diseases and pests while responding to regulatory reviews. New developments will also be presented concerning the techniques of harvesting and the different conservation methods adapted to all sectors,” he said in a recent press announcement. “Finally, it is essential to recall that the evaluation of these complementary innovations is done from the angle of economic, social, environmental and health multi-performance. The fruit of these collective efforts makes French potato production one of the most efficient and sustainable in Europe.”
The event takes place in Villers-Saint-Christophe in Hauts-de-France.
